Practical Questions

My practice is based in my own room, upstairs at The Ambry Clinic, in the Lanes area of central Norwich.  It is peaceful, comfortable, spacious and feels very private. There is a waiting room on the ground floor.

We will explore what brings you to therapy, your hopes for sessions, as well as any concerns or questions you might have about the process. The general aim is for both of us to try to get a sense of whether there’s a good match between what you want and what I can offer.

We can then explore how we might continue, if that’s what you decide you would want.

Appointments are 60 minutes. The number of sessions will always be lead by your needs. There is no fixed number of sessions that is right for everyone. Some people choose to work together over a longer period, while others find that only a small number of sessions is enough.

At our first meeting, we can discuss what you hope to gain from counselling and agree on an approach that feels appropriate. As our work progresses, we will review how things are going and consider whether your needs have changed. You are under no obligation to continue and may choose to finish whenever you feel the time is right.

Sessions last for a full hour and cost £60.

I believe that therapy should be available to all that might benefit, regardless of income, so I volunteer some of my time for free each week, allocating a number of slots to work with clients from 4Cs Counselling Service. 4Cs are an excellent charity offering low-cost counselling to anyone in need. So, if your financial situation means my full fee isn't affordable to you at the moment, please feel free to inquire with 4Cs and we might still be able to work together.

I prefer to meet face-to-face in my therapy room. I have set up the room to be as comfortable and as private as possible and, for me, nothing can quite capture the unique experience of being in the same room as another person each week.

However, I do offer the opportunity to meet online if that means therapy is accessible to anyone who otherwise wouldn’t be able to attend in person.

Privacy is an absolutely essential part of the counselling relationship, and what you share with me will remain confidential, with a small number of exceptions.

To help maintain a reflective and ethical practice, I meet regularly with a qualified clinical supervisor. Supervision is a part of the work of any professional therapist and provides an opportunity to reflect on my work. If I refer to our sessions, I do so without revealing information that could identify you.

There are rare occasions when confidentiality can’t be guaranteed. This might happen if there are serious concerns about your safety or the safety of someone else, or if I have a legal obligation to disclose information. If this situation were to arise, I would aim to speak with you about it first and explain any steps I needed to take.

I can see anyone over the age of 18 and based in the UK.

Before agreeing to work together we would both try to figure out if there is good match between what you would like and what I am able to offer. If, during that process, we realise that your needs might be better met elsewhere, I will do my best to suggest someone more appropriate for you.
